Root Samsung SPH-L720T Sprint Galaxy S4 using CF Auto Root

Root Samsung SPH-L720T Galaxy S4 using a very simple method. The method we are using to Root Galaxy S4 is CF Auto Root. To complete the rooting process we will use Odin software. This method works fine for Samsung Galaxy S4 SPH-L720T running with KOT49H.L720TVPUBNG5 Android 4.4.2 KitKat firmware build. Hope all the latest build with Android 4.4.2 KitKat update will work just fine. The method is very simple, you just need to follow all the below instructions carefully. Requirements:

1. Your device should have enough battery power, at least 50%. Check your battery percentage.
2. Backup or copy important data (photos, videos, notes) and settings to external storage (Its optional but taking backup is always a good practice].
3. Install USB driver for your device on your PC/Laptop- Download USB Driver.
4. Turn on the USB Debugging mode from Developer Options. Go to Settings-General-Developer Options [Developer options are hidden by default on all Android device running on Android 4.2 or up. So, to unhide it, go to Settings-General-About on your device and tap Build Number for 7 times) See the image below.

How to Root Samsung Galaxy S4 SPH-L720T using CF Auto Root:

1. Download CF Auto Root and extract the zip file. The root file will have .tar.md5 extension. 

2. Download Odin software and extract the zip file.

3. Completely switch off your device and press and hold the Volume Down+Home+Power buttons together to boot in to Download Mode (long press until the boot screen appear). 

A confirmation screen will appear. Press Volume Up key to proceed to Download Mode.

4. Now run the Odin software as an administrator (Right click on the .exe file and click on Run as administrator)

5. Now connect your Galaxy S4 L720T to your computer via USB cable.

6. In Odin screen, you should see a COM Port number like “0:[COM4 or other]” at ID:COM section at top left side and “Added!” text at the message box. This means your device has been detected successfully by Odin.

7. Now, under Options tab, make sure that, only the “Auto Reboot” and “F. Reset Time” options are checked, no other option should be checked.

8. Now, click on AP button and select the cf-auto-root file having .tar.md5 extension (CF-Auto-Root-jflterefreshspr-jflterefreshspr-sphl720t.tar.md5).

9. Finally, click on the Start button to begin the installation process, wait few moments, it may take approximately 5 minutes or less to complete.

10. Once completed, you would see “PASS!” message in ID:COM port having green background.

11. Your device should automatically reboot after completion.

12. You can now disconnect your device from computer by removing the USB cable.

13. Now, to make sure that your Samsung Galaxy S4 SPH-L720T is rooted successfully- open applications menu on your phone and find SuperSU app. If the app is present on your phone, then congratulations, you have successfully rooted your device.

14. You can also check your device root status by using Root Checker app which is available free from Google play store.
